Barley Straw
When barley straw is put into water, it starts to decompose. During this process a chemical is released
that inhibits the growth of algae. This process is temperature dependant and ocurrs faster in warmer
water. Barley straw does not kill algae cells already present but prevents the growth of new cells so
it is best to begin barley treatment in very early spring before algae growth appears or to physically
remove as much algae as possible. Barley straw should be replaced by adding new straw a couple of
weeks before the previous dose has completely decomposed allowing a continous release of the algae inhibiting chemical.
Barley straw works best when it is held near the surface of the water and where water movement is
greatest.

Feeding koi and goldfish calcium bentonite clay aids in their digestion as well as removing toxins

Beginning the third week only dose one or two days per week. You can dissolve koi clay into a container
of pond water and pour it evenly around the pond, or make it into a mud ball and lay in a gently flowing stream
so it dissolves slowly.
